Air compressor noise control — Shared by Sollant

  1. Air compressor

An air compressor is a device used to compress gas. Air compressors are similar in construction to water pumps. Most air compressors are reciprocating piston, rotary vane or rotary screw.

  1. Noise source

Air compressor noise generally comes from the following four aspects:

1) Electromagnetic noise

The noise caused by the magnetic field pulse driving the motor has a relatively stable sound pressure level and a wide frequency band.

2) Mechanical noise

It is caused by the imbalance of the rotor system, the spectrum is low-frequency, and the noise sound pressure level is generally 90-110dB (A)

3) Exhaust noise

The noise that the gas is briefly discharged from the cylinder valve is a kind of noise formed by the disturbance of the air flow, which belongs to the broadband spectrum and belongs to the medium and high frequency. The magnitude of the exhaust noise is related to the flow and pressure of the compressed gas and the speed of the air compressor. The greater the flow, the higher the pressure, and the higher the speed, the greater the noise. Since the exhaust outlets are generally arranged outside the air compressor room, it has a great impact on the surrounding environment.

4) Intake noise

The air inlet of the air compressor inhales air intermittently, generating pressure pulsations and transmitting them into the air to form aerodynamic noise, which is a wide-band continuous spectrum with low-frequency characteristics. The intake noise generally increases with the increase of the load, generally 7-10dB (A) higher than the noise of other components, and is the main noise source of the air compressor.

  1. Noise Control

The noise control of air compressors generally starts from the aspects of noise reduction, sound absorption, sound insulation, and vibration isolation.

1) Muffler

The intake noise and exhaust noise of the air compressor need to be reduced by installing a muffler. The intake muffler should be a low-frequency, low-intermediate frequency broadband resistant muffler, and the exhaust muffler should be a muffler. The sound volume is large, the noise reduction frequency is wide, and it has the functions of decompression and capacity expansion, reducing the pressure drop of exhaust and venting, so as to reduce the noise of exhaust venting.

2) Soundproof enclosure or soundproof room

Airframe noise and motor noise are generally reduced by sound-insulating maintenance structures, and sound-absorbing materials are used inside the maintenance structures. Through this structure, the effects of sound absorption and sound insulation are achieved.

3) Vibration isolation

The vibration of the air compressor is generally manifested as the vibration of the body and pipeline, which is transmitted outward along the basic structure. Measures such as installing elastic vibration isolation devices, elastic hangers, floating foundations, vibration isolation trenches, and pipe sound insulation bandages can be adopted.
