The differences and advantages of axial fans and centrifugal fans

We all know that air compressor heat dissipation methods are mainly divided into air cooling and water cooling. In air-cooled air compressors, the cooling fans are mainly divided into two types: axial fans and centrifugal fans. Nowadays, most brands of air compressors mainly use centrifugal fans. So, what is the difference between axial fans and centrifugal fans? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

1. The difference between centrifugal fans and axial flow fans

Centrifugal fans will change the flow direction of the gas in the air duct, but axial fans will not. The air volume and pressure of centrifugal fans are very high, while the air volume and pressure of axial flow fans are low. Centrifugal fans are easy to install, while axial fans are more difficult to install. The motor of a centrifugal fan is generally inside the fan, and the motor of an axial flow fan is connected to the fan through a shaft. Centrifugal fans are generally used at the front end of the air duct outlet or in the air duct. Axial flow fans are often installed at the inlet and outlet of air conditioning units, induced draft fans, etc.

2. Advantages and disadvantages of centrifugal fans and axial flow fans

Centrifugal fans are more commonly used because compared to axial fans, centrifugal fans have the following advantages:

(1) There is no need to disassemble the centrifugal fan for maintenance, making repairs very convenient and saving time.

(2) The heat dissipation effect is better, suitable for pipe exhaust and air supply, with obvious heat dissipation effect and no heat dissipation blind spots.

(3) Centrifugal fans can be used in places with flammable and explosive gases.

(4) The centrifugal fan has low noise during operation, stable operation and is not prone to dust, and is very convenient for maintenance.

(5) The centrifugal fan has strong oxidation resistance and is not easily corroded.

All in all, in the current air compressor market, centrifugal fans are more widely used in air-cooled air compressors than axial fans due to their many advantages.
